Stages in the family reunification procedure

Submitting a request
Applicants must compile a complete file and submit it to the Office français de l'immigration et de l'intégration (OFII) in their département.

File processing
OFII carries out a social investigation to verify compliance with housing and income requirements. This stage can take several months.

Prefecture's decision
After an investigation, the Prefecture makes a decision. If accepted, family members can apply for a long-stay visa from the French consulate in their country of origin.

Arrival

On arrival, family members must report to OFII to validate their visa, obtain their residence permit and undergo a compulsory medical examination.
